Breast Cancer, did you about know this?
Male breast cancer…… Really? Does it exist? Is it real?
The answer is YES!!! And although it is the rarest of all the male cancers, it does exist and affects about 1 in 1000 breast cancer cases in the US. This year, an estimated 2,600 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 440 of them will die.
So, even though it is rare, it is something we ALL need to be aware of. Education is very important because it is often more fatal in men. They aren’t taught about it, they don’t think about it, they don’t know how to find it or what to do when they do find something and even ignore it oftentimes when they do find something. And so, unfortunately, it is usually found after it has progressed to a more dangerous level.
Recently I had the extreme pleasure of meeting the most amazing woman. She is a mother, a fighter and an “Ambassador of Change”! Her name is Peggy Miller and she is the mom of Bret Miller who is a male breast cancer survivor. Bret along with Cheri Ambrose created and became the founders of the Male Breast Cancer Coalition. You can read all about it on their site. Together they created awareness videos on self-exams for both men & women that they have shared with us so that we can help spread the word. They are on our site now too, so be sure to check them out and send your clients there so we can all learn how to do this very important exam.
My goal here is to have all of us help Bret & Peggy create awareness and spread the word on male breast cancer and self-exam education. So, be sure to check out the Oncology Spa Solutions website (Link here) for new videos on how to properly do self-exams for both men and women. Let’s spread the word with anyone who needs hear it (all those with breasts). So, as Esthetic Life Changers, I am thanking you in advance for sharing this very important message.
For more details, I will let Bret share his story here: http://malebreastcancercoalition.org/
